JOHNSTON Mabel
Probably born ante 1722 died ante December 1772

Mabel JOHNSTON, (daughter of Hugh JOHNSTON and co-heiress with her brother Arthur JOHNSTON who died without issue) married in 1740, James CRAWFORD, son of John CRAWFORD and Jane CRAWFORD (nee CRAWFORD). Mabel inherited the Rademon Estate, Crossgar, which remained in the possession of the SHARMAN_CRAWFORD family until 1930.

Mabel's parents were Hugh Johnston and Elizabeth Graham, daughter of Arthur Graham, who were married in 1710.

Mabel's siblings were:

Arthur who married Ursula Buckwood in 1767 (No issue)

Mary
Elizabeth
Jane
Anne

Mabel's brother Arthur of Rademon House, Crossgar, was sometime MP for Killyleagh, co Down

Of the above girls, one became Mrs McNughton, one Mrs Clenbow and one Mrs Mussenden. The latter had two sons, William and Dan.

James and Mabel had a large family of four boys and three girls John b1745, Arthur b1748, Jane b1751, Anne b1753, James b1755, William b1757 , and Mary.

*It has been suggested by Dr Michael CRAWFORD in his "Working Pedigree of The Crawfords of Crawfordsburn and their Cadets" that Hugh CRAWFORD of Orangefield was one of their children, but as this is unproven, it has been left as a separate issue and can be explored further by those interested in Orangefield and Tree1e CRAWFORDS OF ORANGEFIELD
